Named after the traditional sash worn with a kimono, Obi opened its doors on Long Street in 2016 by legendary Japanese chef Hatsushiro Muraoka, affectionately known as “Papa San”, and his long time friend and chef, Ben Bettendorf.
Born from a shared passion for authentic Japanese food and warm hospitality, OBI was created as a space focused on beautifully simple sushi, ramen and traditional Japanese flavours, quickly earning a loyal following in Cape Town.
